Our laboratory has been dedicated to study factors that affect disease progression in children infected with HIV-1. In the recent years, our work has been dedicated to the study of humoral immune responses, more specifically, neutralizing antibody responses in children infected with HIV. As part of this work, we have described the development of neutralization-resistant variants of HIV in children with rapid and slow disease progression. We are currently interested in studying the roles of neutralizing antibodies in modulating the characteristics of virus quasispecies evolving over time, and in the transmission of the virus from mother to infant.
