Biography

Deborah L. Haller, PhD, ABPP is Voluntary Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller Medical school. Prior to relocating to Florida, she was Professor of Clinical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Chair of Psychiatric Research at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where she directed the Behavioral Science Research Unit and the research track for the psychiatric residency program. Dr. Haller is a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology. Her research, teaching, and clinical interests are closely aligned, focusing on medical patients with addictive disorders to include perinatal substance abusers and pain patients who misuse pain medication as well as those with infectious diseases (HIV/HCV), who smoke, require organ transplant or bariatric surgery. Dr. Haller has a 20+ year history of securing federally-funded research, treatment demonstration and training grants. For 8 years, she was a standing member of NIDA IRG (Treatment Research).  She also Chaired the IRB while at VCU.  She reviews for numerous journals and previously was on the Editorial Board of Psychological Assessment.  Dr. Haller was core supervisor for 3 APA accredited psychology internships, directed a post-doctoral fellowship in health/addiction psychology and was Senior Mentor for the NIH Women's Scholars Program. In 2003, she was awarded the "Distinguished Mentor Award" at VCU. For 20 years, Dr. Haller has served as Chief Psychologist for the NFL’s Program for Substance of Abuse where she oversees the evaluation and research programs.
