Mary Jo Trepka is Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University, Miami, FL and a Voluntary Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health Sciences, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami.  She is also the Chair of the Social Behavioral Institutional Review Board at Florida International University.  Dr. Trepka was an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Director of the Office of Epidemiology and Disease Control, Miami-Dade County Health Department.  Her research, which is funded with a R01 award from the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities, National Institutes of Health, focuses on the social determinants of disparities in HIV screening, care and treatment and survival.  She received the Presidential Early Career Award for Science and Engineering on October 14, 2011 from President Obama for her work on studying the role of poverty, segregation and rural/urban status in racial disparities in HIV survival. She serves as a grant reviewer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health.
