Biography

Shaun P. Brothers, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. He is also a founding member of the Center for Therapeutic Innovation at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. Dr. Brothers earned his Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Chemistry from Oregon State University and his Doctorate in Physiology and Pharmacology from Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Brothers was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Neuroscience at The Scripps Research Institute - Scripps Florida before joining the University of Miami. Dr. Brothers has been engaged in the field of G Protein Coupled Receptor (GPCR) research for over 15 years where he has made several contributions to the understanding of how GPCRs are processed and regulated within the cell. His current focus is on GPCR neuropharmacology and especially the development of novel small molecules that can be used to better understand neurological diseases such as addiction and autism, with the possibility of clinical translation.
