Biography
James M Grichnik, M.D., Ph.D. is a professor of the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Grichnik, an expert in early detection of melanoma, serves as the Director of the Melanoma Program in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This interdisciplinary program is experiencing rapid growth and offers comprehensive melanoma care. He also directs a world-class Surveillance and Detection clinic utilizing imaging technologies such as total body photography, dermoscopy, and confocal microscopy to allow for melanoma detection at early, more curable, stages.
An expert in tumor stem cells, Dr. Grichnik directs a research program within the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute at the University of Miami. His interests are focused on developmental pathways in cancer that may present new diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets.
Dr. Grichnik has written more than 70 scientific publications and chapters, and is an internationally recognized speaker on melanoma. He has been cited in numerous periodicals of best doctors, including Best Doctors in America, Who’s Who in America, America’s Top Dermatologists, and America’s Top Doctors for Cancer.
Dr. Grichnik received his baccalaureate from Washington University in St Louis, his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Baylor College of Medicine College, and his medical degree from Harvard University. He completed a medical internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and dermatology residency at Duke University.
