Lee D. Kaplan, MD, a renowned specialist in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, is Chief of UHealth Sports Medicine, a division of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The division is the official sports medicine provider for the Miami Hurricanes.

Dr. Kaplan is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Having earned an Undergraduate Degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1990 and his Doctor of Medicine degree from George Washington University in 1995, Dr. Kaplan completed his residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Orthopaedic Surgery in June 2000.

He simultaneously completed a sports medicine/shoulder fellowship and a clinical instructor sports medicine and research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, 2000-2002. Prior to joining the UM Miller School of Medicine Orthopaedics team, Dr. Kaplan served concurrently as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation and Affiliate Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine. Dr. Kaplan is currently a Diplomate of the Board, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and holds Medical Licenses in the States of Florida and Wisconsin.

An expert on conditions resulting from sports-related injury, Dr. Kaplan is the author of multiple articles on sports medicine and articular cartilage, as well as a wide range of other Orthopaedic disciplines. His articles have been published in numerous medical journals in the United States, Canada and abroad. A member of many professional and honorary organizations, such as the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Kaplan has received many prestigious honors and awards.

Dr. Kaplan provides coverage for the University of Miami Football and Baseball teams and is the Medical Director & Team Physician for the Miami Marlins.
