Biography

Dr. Chaparro is an expert in the management of critically ill heart failure patients, cardiac transplant patients, and patients who required mechanical support cardiac devices, including ventricular assist devices and total artificial heart. While there are some cardiologists who manage heart failure, clinical expertise in the management of advanced heart failure is exceptional and limited to those, like Dr. Chaparro, who have performed advanced training. She developed expert procedural skills in the performance of endomyocardial biopsies, heart catheterizations, implanting defibrillators, placement of intra-aortic balloon pumps and percutaneous support devices such as the Impella. She is the principal investigator of multiple clinical trials involving left ventricular devices, new pharmaceutical agents for cardiomyopathies and pulmonary hypertension, innovative heart assist device, spinal cord neuromodulation therapy and stem cell therapy.
