Richard A Preston MD, MSPH, MBA is the Chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Medical Director of the 20-bed 7500 square foot combined outpatient and inpatient Clinical Pharmacology Research Unit (CPRU). He has extensive experience in clinical research protocol design, writing, and conduct. He has been PI of more than 180 clinical research studies conducted in our CPRU over the past 15 years. In addition to phase I clinical pharmacology studies in special populations he has designed and conducted numerous original complex physiologic studies including studies of potassium handling, sodium handling and sodium sensitivity. In 2010 the paper “Mechanisms of impaired potassium handling with dual renin-angiotensin-aldosterone blockade in chronic kidney disease” (Hypertension 2009; 53:754-760) was selected by the Editors of Hypertension and the AHA Council for High Blood Pressure Research as one of the two best clinical research papers of the year.
